Version 3.2
The Presbytery of Ayr covers the area shown inside the black line on the map. As can be seen, it runs from north of Barassie to south of Ballantrae and from Glenbuck and New Cumnock in the east to the sea at the west. All Church of Scotland churches in the area - a total of 51 congregations served by 38 ministers and two deacons - are members of Presbytery, with the minister and an elder from each congregation appointed to be members.
The Presbytery meets once a month from September until December and from February until June, normally on the first Tuesday of the month and normally in Alloway Church Hall at 7:00 pm. Meetings are open to the public - unless something is being discussed which is personal, when non members will be asked to leave the room while the private business is dealt with - usually this only lasts for a few minutes.
Presbytery is presided over by a Moderator, elected annually from the members of Presbytery - you will find a message from the present Moderator in this Main section, by using the section menu at the left. Presbytery also has a Clerk, who is responsible for taking minutes of the meetings, ensuring that the administration is smooth and advising Presbytery and its members on church law.
More information about previous moderators and about how the Presbytery fits into the scheme of the Church of Scotland, can be found on the History pages of the Presbytery tab at the top of the page.
The dates of Presbytery meetings and other Presbytery organised events can be found the Diary pages
